More Disney

We've been spending a lot of time at Disney lately. Our friends Brandy, Clayton, Hayden and Emerson from North Carolina who now live in Colorado were visiting Disney. I love living so close to Disney because we get to see people who we otherwise would not get to see. Sage loves Hayden. She has been talking about him all year since we saw them last year. Sage, Hayden and Emerson get along really well. We were able to see them three times during their trip. On the night of our Animal Kingdom outing, we met them at Magic Kingdom for the Spectro Magic parade. I would have had pictures but my cursed camera didn't want to work at night. I really have to get a new camera. I was so mad!!!! We met up with them at Hollywood Studios on Wednesday and had dinner with them at the Sci-Fi diner. The ambiance was really fun. The tables are set up in cars that face a giant movie screen to resemble a drive-in movie. The food was great too. The kids really loved going on Toy Story and Star Tours. We had to leave early so Sage could go to school the next day. It is so nice to see Sage so happy!

Animal Kingdom

After the Tusker House we spent the day at Animal Kingdom. We went on the Safari ride twice and watched the parade. The second Safari ride was right near the park closing time, therefore, it was feeding time. We were able to see, up close, lots of animals. Animal Kingdom's Safari is on an enormous Savannah were the animals roam free. The few carnivorous animals they have are kept separated so the herbivores can live stress-free. The animals spend the day grazing or eating leaves from the trees but several times during the day, they are fed from Animal Kingdom. While on the ride, we were stopped by an ostrich crossing the road. A young giraffe walked along side of us for a few minutes and a small herd of rhinoceros crossed in front of us and walked beside us too. It was way cool! After the first ride, we took a walking tour behind the safari and saw a strange animal called on Okapi which is a cousin of the giraffe. We had a fun day.

My 39th Birthday

My actual birthday was mostly boring. Scott and I had our weekly lunch with Sage at school. I shopped and cleaned - not very exciting. Scott took me out to lunch the day before. It was a nice, quiet, child-free lunch. On Saturday, my parents planned a really nice day for me. We went to the Tusker House in Animal Kingdom for lunch. The food was absolutely great! It was a buffet with more vegetarian choices than I have ever seen on a buffet. There were tons of rice dishes, couscous, all different types of veggies, salad, breads, tofu, samosas, hummus, tabouli, and so much more. I never ate so much food at one time. This is, by far, my most favorite restaurant in all of Disney. I highly recommend it. I will definitely go back soon. Tusker house used to be counter service and we were all upset when it became a sit down restaurant, but now it is voted the favorite in our family.

Farm Sanctuary

At the beginning of August we went to Farm Sanctuary with Reggie and Marlie. Farm Sanctuary is an animal shelter for farm animals located in Watkins Glen, NY. They rescue animals that are at the brink of death. Most of the animals led torturous, unspeakable lives. It is so sad that we, humans, who are supposed to be civilized, can treat animals the way we do. Farm Sanctuary is an incredible place that not only offers a safe place for the animals to live for the rest of their lives, but they also help enforce animal protection laws, and create better laws through legislation.

The four of us had a really great time visiting the animals. Not too many people have the opportunity to pet cows, pigs, and turkeys. The turkeys were so soft and extremely friendly. One of the pigs would snort if you pet her stomach. She rolled over on her back like a dog so we could have easier access. I really don't know how anybody can eat these beautiful animals.

Sage's 6th Birthday

Sage turned 6 on September 13th. I wanted to have a salon day with her then go to Disney for a dinner with the princesses. We did this last year and she loved it. Shortly before her birthday, she decided she wanted a real party at our house. She never had a house party before. We invited her whole class but only two boys came as well as two girls from her preschool with their sisters. We had 6 kids and lots of adults. Both sets of Sage's grandparents were there too. The kids had a blast eating and playing party games. It took me a week to clean the house before the party and almost as long to clean up afterwards. I am really glad it's over and I'm really happy it was such a success. Sage chose the Kung Fu Panda theme which was very cool.

Let's Start Again

It's been about a year since I've posted anything. I really wanted to have a weekly blog. Now Sage is in Kindergarten so I hope to have more time to play around. Let's see what happens.

This year we have a new addition to our family. We adopted Princess from a pet rescue organization in June. She was about 8 months old at the time. They had found her on the street a few months before. She most likely had been hit by a car. The pet rescue group brought her to an emergency clinic where she had major surgery on her back leg. They were able to save her leg and now you could hardly tell she had problems except for a missing toe and nails. Nobody wanted to adopt her and she had been sent to lots of different foster homes. We brought her home and fell in love with her right a way and she has been a fun part of our family since. Sage loves having the companionship.
